1.Tahitian Pearls are not actually come from TahitiBecause of the given name, vast majority of people, including many jewelers might quite logically assume that “Tahitian” pearls are either organically found or commercially farmed in Tahiti, the truth of this matter is something that may shock your beliefs.
Reality: Tahiti doesn’t have a single pearl farm located on this island. All Tahitian Pearls are produced on pearl farms located French Polynesia, stretching as far east as the Gambier Islands and as far west as the Micronesian Islands. They are called “Tahitian Pearls” due to the fact that Tahiti is the official commercial center and trading hub of this rare and valuable pearl, called “Tahitian!” |
2. Wholesalers of Tahitian Pearls are not TahitianOnce again, logically, we are naturally driven on the wrong way by thinking that Tahitian people are distributing their pearls all over the world. Even if there are nearly 400 pearl farms in French Polynesia, worldwide wholesalers are not Tahitian. Cultured Pearls are Japanese invention and they are also worldwide wholesalers, the decree was edited by Mikimoto on March 31st 1953 and still available today. The first principle in this decree stipulated as following “Japan alone will market all cultured pearls, regardless of the country in which they were produced”
